William and Skinjo: A Tunnel Left Unanswered

William interviews Skinjo at a quiet tide line beside a dark coastal village late at night. They face each other in dark coats, with cool cyan reflections and restrained acid-green edge light; no tunnel is shown.

This post relates to another entry. Read it here.

At the tide line, Robin Hood’s Bay is mostly darkness. Behind William and Skinjo, the village lights thin out; beside them, water folds over the shingle.

William: “What did you actually find about the smugglers’ tunnel?”

Skinjo: “One page. Its title promised a hidden piece of history. I expected a description, but the captured text had no tunnel history—only a related-post card for Nunnington Hall, under places to visit and things to do.”

William: “So we have a title, not a route.”

Skinjo: “Or an age. Or evidence of how it was used. That source doesn’t give us any of those.”

A small wave reaches the dark seam of wet stones. Skinjo watches it withdraw.

William: “And this—the shore at night, the village behind us?”

Skinjo: “Atmosphere. It makes the smuggling legends easy to imagine. It doesn’t document them.”

William: “Does the missing description mean there was no tunnel?”

Skinjo: “No. Only that this page hasn’t answered the question.”

They leave the water to mark its own boundary. The tunnel stays an open question, without an entrance drawn in for it.
