Jack Beneath the Canvas Awning

Jack stands alone beneath an oxidized-red shop awning at evening, watching a rain-wet street with his camera resting at his hip. Hard side light catches the canvas texture and drops falling beyond the shelter.

Jack waits beneath the shop’s canvas awning, his camera resting at his hip. Above him, the light rain sounds busier than it looks: a quick, dry tapping on stretched cloth, then the heavier tick of water leaving the edge.

A narrow frame and a length of canvas have made a room without quite making indoors. He watches the evening street from its missing wall.

The drops grow farther apart. Jack holds out a hand beyond the shelter, then waits through one last patter. No need to argue with the roof while it is still working.

When the rain stops, he steps out.
